Jan 10, 2006 I will be going on a vacation with my wife to New York! I am really looking forward to it. It has been a while since I have been there. I have been several times, but this will be my first as an adult. We plan on staying with my wife’s god-mother while we are there, so we will be able to save some money and use it for enjoying ourselves.
What I am concerned about is the Transit Worker’s strike. The strike started yesterday, and there is plenty of time between now and the start of our trip for it to be resolved, but it sounds like they made their final offer already, and it is a take it or leave it scenerio. It may be a long fight. As much as it would suck for me if it is still going on, I still support them. I know that the budget must be tight, but the city needs to take care of them.
The other concern that I have (and one that I am still excited about) is that the weather will be COLD. It will be like 34F as the high while we are there. Quite cold for someone from Florida. We will be shopping for cold-weather clothes after christmas for the good deals, since we will only be there for 10 days, and we don’t need it here. But that means that we will likely be getting snow there.
Snow!
Okay, that may not mean much to you, but I have only seen snow once. It was a light dusting while I was in New York last time. Everything was coated with a light layer, and then it went away when it turned 60F later. It was nice, but not the true snow experience. I hope to take just a day to play with my wife in that. I am especially looking forward to creating a snow man with her.
I am also looking forward to going to all the museums and the other touristy stuff. Especially to see Wicked. I was going to see it in Tampa, but this will be the main production, so I am really looking forward to seeing it. We will have to try every day for the on-call tickets since to buy tickets before the day costs about as much as our flight tickets. If there are no seats open the entire trip, well we can still see it in Tampa.
I’m also looking forward to seeing my family there. Most specifically my cousin. I still have never met his boyfriend. I hate calling him that, since they have been together for years. Maybe one day he can get a better title. Hopefully soon.
