I went to Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. That in of itself isn’t anything big; I have the Florida Resident Seasonal Pass. What was interesting is that I went with my wife, and her god-son. (My god son too? I don’t know.) What was strange about it was the fact that since he is under 40 inches high, he is not able to go on a lot of the rides. So we went to all the shows and the show-rides. I saw some things that I have not seen in years. The Tiki Room was really different. I’m not sure that I liked it completely, but the little one did, and that is what matters. Speaking of updating, we saw Country Bear Jamboree, and man… It really is showing its age. Don’t get me wrong, I love it, but it hasn’t changed since the park opened. The sounds wasn’t that great in it either. It just needed to be balanced, since the instrumentals would over-power the vocals. The Haunted Mansion seems to need a little bit of work, since the audio had some glitches. Between the Ghost Host talking there would be little pops and crackles. I still love it.

Everybody to the dead center of the room.

I love that.

Our god-son is so cute. He is two, and very well behaved. He didn’t cry once the whole day. Actually, he was rather quiet. He really liked the gloves and hat that my wife got him. He kept putting them on and taking them off.

Yeah, it was that cold that we needed the whole shebang. I brought my jacket, gloves, and scarf to have a dry run for New York, but it turned out that I lucked out. I was really glad to have them all by the end of the day, and though we were looking to just stay until 5 p.m., we wound up closing the park. That is another thing that we did that I have not seen in years (since I was a kid) the lighted parade (Spectral Magic). It was really pretty. Strange that since they updated it that they didn’t use anything much different than when the park opened on its first day. I would have expected LED’s, LCD screens, lasers, fiber optics, or something other than just incandescent bulbs. But I guess you just can’t mess with perfection.

There was one bad thing about going to Disney World though…

Its a small world after all. Its a small world after all. Its a small world after all. Its a small, small world.

Dear God, make it stop! Someone, please shoot me!

If you find yourself on the west coast and have a chance to hit Disneyland, be sure not to miss the Enchanted Tiki Room there. In 2005 they completed a very extensive restoration, and it looks and sounds beautiful — nothing at all like the atrocity of the Orlando Tiki Room.

I hear you re: the Country Bears… I love that little show, but boy is it ragged.

Thanks for the advice, I would love to. One thing that really annoys me about the “update” is that while they added Iago and Zazoo with modern animatronics, the others are still very simple. Not to mention covered in a layer of dust.

    [Sigh]

Disney is just letting it self go.
