Well, I just watched the controversial Judgement Day: Intelligent Design on Trial, Bionca was in the other room watching General Hospital. This is a pretty typical evening. I’m not saying that every bit of programming that I watch is culturally significant, but I do like to watch the news, documentaries, and smart shows like the The Daily Show. (I know that the last one is a bit debatable..) I’m also not saying that I think that Bionca is shallow (far from it), but it is just one example of how we are very different. I mean I tried to give some attention and appreciation to her show (I even went to another page to read a plot summary… okay, so I just skimmed it), but I just can’t be interested. Even the so-called reality shows that focus on the relationships and conflicts of real people don’t interest me. I think that it is the same for Bionca with watching the news: (in general) it just doesn’t touch her.

I guess it really comes down to our general outlook and focus on life. I tend to focus on the big picture, the big idea, the blueprints, and guiding principals. Bionca tends to be focused on the details of life. For me, a craft project is the vision and the pattern, but for her it is the execution of a plan that is most important.

How does this affect our relationship? Some might say that prevents us from having interests in common (and that would be true to a large extent), but I think that it is a real strength. While I am focusing on the big picture, I get sloppy with the details, and Bionca will get so caught up in the details that she can forget why she is working so hard. In this way we compliment each other: I help keep us on our heading, and she helps me to remember the things that we need to do to get there.

… But I will still give her shit for watching The Hills.
