I wish working on a weekend could always be this fun. Saturday, I was drafted to attend an event for SCC called their Dream Auction. Normally this isn’t something that I usually for the the company, since well, I am the company Computer Geek. Luckily for the both of the PR people were unavailable, and Shelley was nice enough to ask me.

So, Black Tie affair, and here I am not even owning a suit, I went to the mall on Friday (the day before) to find a suit. While looking, I found that tuxes are not much more (actually this time it was even less). I was able to find a tux for $220 total. The only part that was not on sale was the shoes, and that was because the ones that I really wanted they only had one pair my size, and they were scuffed. So, mission accomplished, and as a bonus, I own a tux!

So we get there and it is pretty packed. Bionca and I make our way around looking at all of the prize packages, and buy our raffle chips. We decided on the Burried Treasure (because my company sponsored part of it and partly because it had tickets to Spamalot). We also put one in for the 52″ HDTV. (Bionca does love me)

After that we went further back and Bionca talked to some of the people from the music department that she knows, and she got to show off a little. I think that that was one of the best parts of the night for her. We went to bar and ordered our drinks where I wound up talking with this older gentleman about my name and Jason and the Argonauts. He was convinced that it was from either The Iliad or The Odyssey and for some reason I couldn’t refute it since I could neither remember the name Odysseus for some reason, nor get out enough details to differentiate it from that of he story that Jason and the Argonauts and the Golden Fleece. My powers of Geek Knowledge failed me. Oh well, its hard to argue with drunk people anyway.

We sat down and were treated to a nice meal, and we shared a table with some of the people from the money management firm that handles the SCC foundation. The food was a fillet with shrimp, scallops, carrots, asparagus, couscous, and tomatoes. Very nice. Most of the evening was going through the prizes and telling about the foundation and the school, but it was ended with a performance by the Capitol Steps. If you have not heard of them, find them online. They are a brilliant comedy troop who had me laughing almost from the very beginning. The best was the monologue where oll af we thords thad heir lirst fetters ixed mup. It was delivered perfectly, and I was rolling in laughter while being supremely impressed.

Bionca and I really enjoyed ourselves. So much that we were a bit too drunk to drive, and wound up getting a room at the hotel. (which was very nice by the way) All in all, it was about as perfect of an evening as I could ask for. If anyone that reads this gets a chance to see the Capitol Steps do it. And even though I didn’t win any of the raffles it was still money well spent. To top it off, it even went for a good cause. :)

Getting all dressed up and going out is so much fun, I’m so glad you both enjoyed yourself to the point of having to get a room.

    *hugs*

Their “On the Metro” tune is now a running gag
