When we woke up this morning, we were treated to a gorgeous sight. Everything outside was coated with a quarter to a half of an inch of ice. Everything sparkles, and shines. It was so beautiful. We got some pictures, but since I do not have a fast connection right now, I will post them later. The car was an experience too. It was coated pretty thoroughly and we didn’t have an ice scraper, so I went into the car and turned on the heat all the way, and the defroster while we got stuff packed up. I tried to get an ice scraper from the owner of the inn that we were at, but they didn’t have one. So instead, when I came out later, and the ice was starting to melt a little, I used the plastic key-chain for our room to scrape the ice off the windshields. I think that the most memorable part was the ice that was over the OnStar antenna and how it came off in one piece in the shape of the antenna.
The roads were not too bad, as they had crews out early in the morning to salt the roads. I was driving, and I just used the low gears as we were going down the mountain. While it was a little slow going, it was also nice, since the scenery was magnificent. Bionca got some pictures of it. We will have to see how/if they turned out.
I think that Charlotte is ready to be home. When we took her out at a gas station to fuel up and to stretch she came out immediately, but after I walked her and came back to the car to get her some water, she jumped back in the car and I could not get her to come out despite calling her out and pulling on her leash. She was ready to be home alright. She is still doing well in the car, and mostly just lays there. Every once in a while we will open the windows a little, and she will sniff the air, but she gets bored with that after a while and lays down again. She really has been great on this trip. She even had fun playing with the german shepherds that the owners of the Homestead Inn had walking around the property. I don’t think that she really cared for or knew what to do with the ice that was all over the grass. I got some video of it.
So, that is it. We have not yet stopped for lunch/dinner, so I imagine that we will soon. Other than that, it is a straight shot home. I am looking forward to getting home and being out of the car. I am glad though that we decided to go to Blowing Rock after leaving Lumberton before coming home, as it was a really nice experience, and a nice relaxing trip.
