Dana, Logan, Evan, Bionca, and myself went to New Smyrna today.
We started off by going to Highland Café for breakfast. The food was pretty good, and it was priced well. Bionca got a little freaked out when she saw a strange bug crawling on the wall near her. I was proud of her, as she didn’t let it ruin her breakfast.
We met the Tompkins at their house and headed to the beach. When we got there, unfortunately the water was 75° F, which doesn’t sound so cold, but it was not something I wanted riding up my back. I spent my time playing with the boys, digging in the sand, and laying out sun. We had a nice time.
There were two things that are especially memorable. The first was when I was watching Logan play in the waves a fish (I think it was a 10 inch mullet) started to lazily swim by in the shallows. Since they were bringing sand up to the beach, the water was almost opaque with silt. As a result, this fish didn’t see Logan until it was right on him, when it swam off. I don’t know why that struck me as funny, but it did.
The other thing was while I was digging, I had a little sun screen dripping my eye, when Evan threw some sand in my eye. I tried flushing it with water from a bottle, but it wasn’t working well enough. We were behind some condos, so I located the shower and tried to go in, but it was blocked by a gate code. There were some people in there, and I pleaded to be let in to wash out my eye, but the self-important prick laughed and pointed to the sign saying “residents and guests only.” As I started arguing with the guy, luckily another resident came over and let me use his hose. I was very grateful.
I just could not believe that guy. It’s not like the pool area was a Top Secret military base. It’s a pool. That rule is to minimize cleaning costs and to make sure that it isn’t so full that the residents can’t use it, and should be overridden for medical emergencies (even relatively minor ones).
May a seagull fly over you and defecate right into your open mouth.
Dick.
