Yesterday was my birthday party, and while it wasn’t a surprise, it was great fun. I was thrilled to have everyone there. For some, it was the first time that they met, and for others it was the first time in years. I must admit that I was a little nervous about it, but it seemed that everyone enjoyed themselves.
The surprise of the evening was that Abuela made it. We didn’t think that she would, since we live on the third floor. Apparently, she was a little embarrassed about spilling her soda early on, but it really no big deal.
The only other hitch of the night was the traffic. A lot of people had a hard time getting to our place because the game going on at the Citrus Bowl. We actually started eating before everyone got there, and before even all of the food came.
It was pretty free-form, with no big events other than the cake. Mostly everyone was just talking while eating. Bionca did break out the kareoke machine, and the usuals entertained everyone. I dare say that Bionca’s rendition of "I Will Survive" was the favorite of the night. She interspaced her wonderful vocals with Andy Kaufman-like spoken word, while Dana interjected with both backup and quips. They were great.
Speaking of great, The food was amazing. I don’t know the last time that I have seen that much Mexican food in one place before. People were kind enough to take some home, but our refrigerator may still collapse under the weight of the left-overs. I don’t know how we are going to eat it all.
I really appreciate all that everyone did to help us, and the great cards and gifts. Most of all, I appreciated everyone being there to celebrate with me, and I especially appreciate all of the work that Bionca did to make that happen.
I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday.
